Background of Omagh CCÉ

Ceoltóirí Éireann is the largest group involved in the preservation and promotion of Irish traditional culture, including music, song, dance and the language.

On the back of the formation of Comhaltas in Dublin in 1951, interest in traditional culture was renewed locally and in the mid

Since then, the branch has being going from strength to strength, with successful music classes, festivals and Fleadhanna held throughout this period. Classes in the branch have been thriving over the years, offering tuition in a number of musical disciplines for all levels.

This was a testimony to the founding members of the branch, who worked tirelessly to establish a platform for our culture in the area, and for those in the branch who continue to work and strive towards this today. The branch has had a very successful period at county, provincial and all-Ireland level at fleadhanna. Numerous successes in individual and group disciplines reflect the hard work and dedication of both the members of our branch, and their teachers in striving towards excellence.

Today, the branch maintains the policy of rotating sessions throughout the area and surrounding townlands and the success of the monthly session (2nd Friday monthly September to April inclusive) is reflected in the numbers who attend and the high standard of musicians and singers who travel for the music, song and dance. Interest in irish traditional culture has never been stronger in the area, much due to the oustanding success of Fleadh Cheoil 2017.
